Letter to Parents -- May 29, 2020

Dear Immaculata Families, May 29, 2020

I hope that our Immaculata families are enjoying the nice weather.  The grade 7&8 students continue to work on their weekly work plans that are sent every Monday morning.  High School students continue to work towards their credits to improve their marks which will better prepare them for the following year.

Please access this information site that will give you Updates, Learning & Well-Being Resources as well as a FAQ Section.  Please visit http://imh.ocsb.ca/ for information and email Immaculata.High@ocsb.ca if you need to contact the school.

Grade 12 students  are reminded to review the Grade 12 Website for updated information.  We are hoping that Grads will be home on June 5th as there will be special deliveries made on this day.

Student registrations and summer school registrations are open and can be accessed online through the school website on the left hand side. Please pass this information to any family who is seeking to register at the school.

The school and Ottawa Public Health have finalized a plan to have limited access to students to clean out their lockers, return items and retrieve their yearbook (if purchased).  The plan will ensure social distancing measures are in place as the safety of the students and staff are our main concern.  The protocol must be followed and any individual who does not meet the OPH/school guidelines will not be permitted to enter the school.  An administrator will ask every individual questions on this protocol and will deny access if responses are not adequate for safety reasons.  The first phase of school entry will consist of having a schedule (starting June 8th) based on Last Name -- Alphabetical Order.  This will be a very long process to ensure that safety guidelines are met.

Students who access the building will be able to drop off their textbooks, sports uniforms, used school uniforms and musical instruments.  Electronic devices such as chromebooks and internet sticks are to be collected if the student is not remaining at the school for the following year or if they are no longer in need of the device for their studies.  Students are asked to remember their locker combination and the location of their locker.

I hope that all our Immaculata families are doing well.

Dear Immaculata Families, May 22, 2020

We hope that everyone enjoyed a good long weekend with lots of sunshine.  The announcement from the province came out this week that all schools will remain closed for the rest of the year.  Please be aware that teachers are still providing work for students throughout the rest of the school year.  Grade 7&8 students continue to work on their weekly work plans that are sent every Monday morning.  High School students continue to work towards their credits and the work that they submit will improve their marks and will have students better prepared for the following year.

Student registrations and summer school registrations can be accessed online through the school website on the left hand side. There is no information at this time on what summer school courses will be available.  Please pass this information to any family who is seeking to register at the school.

The school, school board and Ottawa Public Health are presently working on a plan to have limited access to students to clean out their lockers and to retrieve personal items.  A detailed plan will be sent out early next week.  The plan will ensure social distancing measures are in place as the safety of the students and staff are our main concern.  The protocol that will be outlined must be followed and any individual who does not meet the OPH/school guidelines will not be permitted to enter the school.  The first phase of school entry will consist of having a schedule based on Last Name -- Alphabetical Order.  This will be a very long process to ensure that safety guidelines are met.

Students who access the building will be able to drop off their textbooks, sports uniforms, school uniforms and chromebooks.  Students may continue to borrow items from the school if they still require these items to continue with their studies.  Students are asked to remember their locker combination and the location of their locker.

I hope that all our Immaculata families are doing well.

Dear Immaculata Families, May 15, 2020

We are all glad to see nice weather ahead and hope that our Immaculata families get to spend some time outside in the sun while maintaining social distancing.  Schools remain closed and Ottawa Public Health is working with the school board on a plan to have students access their personal belongings.

Please access this information site that will give you Updates, Learning & Well-Being Resources as well as a FAQ Section.  Please visit http://imh.ocsb.ca/ for information and email Immaculata.High@ocsb.ca if you need to contact the school.

With social distancing, there is an increased need for community help.  Here are some community services by CHEO, Youth Ottawa and an Ottawa Mental Health Resource Guide.

Student registrations and summer school registrations can be accessed online through the school website on the left hand side. There has not been any clear indication on what summer school courses will be available.  Please pass this information to any family who is seeking to register at the school.

Grade 7&8 students continue to work on their weekly work plans that are sent every Monday morning.  High School students continue to work towards their credits and the work that they submit will improve their marks.  The teachers are always available to support your son/daughter in their education.

Grade 12 students have submitted their applications for valedictorian and students are still in the process of applying for scholarships.  We are presently looking at offering a virtual Grad Retreat for our graduating students.  Grad fees have been reimbursed to student families and students are encouraged to review the Grade 12 Website for updated information.

We will be holding another Virtual School Council meeting on Wednesday May 27th and we would like to thank the Parent Council for their commitment to the school.

We would like to wish all our Immaculata families a great long weekend.

God Bless,

Principal

Dear Immaculata Families,

Schools still remain closed until May 31st as we continue our Distance Learning Education.  There have been many requests to access the school but unfortunately Ottawa Public Health does not allow access at this point in time.

Please access this information site that will give you Updates, Learning & Well-Being Resources as well as a FAQ Section.  You can also access specialized support services, programs and subsidies by contacting 2-1-1 Ottawa.  Please visit http://imh.ocsb.ca/ for information and email Immaculata.High@ocsb.ca if you need to contact the school.

We would like to extend another thank you to the Ottawa Rotary Club for their generous donations to our Immaculata community.  We would also like to thank Immaculata families who have made donations to families in need. We are all doing our part to help and pray for others.

Grade 7&8 students continue to work on their weekly work plans that are sent every Monday morning.  All students in grades 9-11 received their interim mark (as of March 13th) from their teachers this week.  Please contact your son/daughter’s teachers for updated marks since all completed work in distance learning can improve their marks prior to the end of this semester.  A reminder that all high school final exams have been cancelled but there may be CPTs for certain courses.

We held our first virtual grade 12 meeting this week.  Students discussed creative ways to celebrate their final year of High School at Immaculata.  We are blessed that we had our first ever Fall Grad Retreat but students still want to look at ways to celebrate the end of their high school career.  We will be conducting Valedictorian selections online and students are asked to check their emails and the

Grade 12 Website for more information.

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers and grandmothers, especially during these challenging times.

God Bless,

Principal

Dear Immaculata Families, April 24, 2020

Distance Learning seems to be the norm as we enter our second month of social distancing.  I would like to thank all the staff, parents and students for working together to make a difference in their education.  I would also like to thank the Parent Council for hosting our first ever virtual meeting and we appreciate your contributions to our school community.

We continue to pray for all families affected by COVID-19 and we also pray for those affected by the tragedy in Nova Scotia.  This Friday marks the first day of Ramadan and we hope that the Muslim community remains well and healthy during their period of prayer, fasting and charity-giving.  We have recently celebrated our 50th anniversary for Earth Day and hope our Immaculata families spend some quality time outside.   The United Way is seeking donations if you are able to contribute as there are many families in need.

The School Board has created an information site that will give you Updates, Learning & Well-Being Resources as well as a FAQ Section.  Please visit http://imh.ocsb.ca/ for information and email Immaculata.High@ocsb.ca if you need to contact the school.  Here is a list of community resources.  There will not be any uniform fitting dates for the rest of the year.  Please visit Top Marks for information -- they will be providing more online help for sizing and will provide free shipping and labels for returns.

Grade 7&8 Homeroom teachers are continuing to forward their weekly work plans to students every Monday.  Students are expected to communicate with their teachers every week and please let us know if there are any circumstances that are preventing this as we would like to support all of our students.

There is no midterm report card but Grade 12 students received their Midterm marks this week as they needed to be sent to Universities & Colleges.  Students requiring a transcript to be sent out of province must email Immaculata.High@ocsb.ca.  The deadline for dropping a Senior course is May 6th.  A parent must communicate with the guidance counsellor before May 4th to ensure that your son/daughter meets all graduate expectations.   Scholarship deadlines are approaching -- please visit the Grade 12 Website.

All High School students need to continue to work towards their credits.  Here is information for Summer School and Registration for those interested.

We hope that everyone remains healthy and safe and hope to see you in the near future.
