Labour Relations Update from OCSB

posted Jan 17, 2020, 6:25 AM by Wanda Symes   [ updated Jan 17, 2020, 6:31 AM ]

Dear Parents and Guardians,All Ottawa Catholic School Board Schools are OPEN on Monday, January 20, 2020. Buses are running for OCSB students and all regular school day activities will continue as planned.

However, I do encourage you to make alternative child care arrangements (if required) for Tuesday, January 21, 2020. Our teachers are members of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association (OECTA) and they are scheduled to participate in a one-day provincial strike.

This means ALL OCSB Elementary, Intermediate and Secondary schools will be CLOSED and all student transportation will be cancelled for OCSB students. Classes will resume the next day January 22, 2020. There is NO CHANGE to the high school exam schedule. High School exams will take place between January 23 through January 29, 2020.

The one day closure also includes all regular school day activities, Co-op, OYAP, dual credit, home instruction, extra-curricular activities, field trips, and clubs.

Before and after school programs will be cancelled for the day. However, all Ottawa Catholic Child Care Corporation Toddler and Preschool programs and all EarlyOn Centres will be open and will operate according to their regular hours.

Parents who wish to apply for government reimbursement for child care costs related to labour unrest may direct their questions to the Support for Parents Helpline at 888-444-3770 or

We remain hopeful that an agreement can be reached at the central bargaining table when they reconvene. We will continue to provide timely labour updates through our website, social media channels and via School Messenger to keep you up-to-date regarding labour negotiations.

Semester 1 High School Schedule:

posted Jan 6, 2020, 11:31 AM by Wanda Symes

High School exams will be written on January 23rd, 24th, 27th, and 28th.  In the event of a snow day during the high school exam period, exam schedules at all schools for all students will be affected (not just for school bus riders).

In the event of a “snow day” where yellow school bus transportation is cancelled during the high school exam period, the missed exam will be written the following day.
All other exams will be bumped by one day and the last exam, scheduled for Tuesday, January 28th will be written on Wednesday, January 29th.  During a snow day, the school will be open, but exams will not be written.
Friday, January 31st is a PD day with semester two beginning on Monday, February 3rd.

For example, if January 23rd is a snow day and all school bus transportation for our board is cancelled, then:
All exams originally scheduled for January 23rd will be written on January 24th.
All exams originally scheduled for January 24th will be written on January 27th.
All exams originally scheduled for January 27th will be written on January 28th.
All exams originally scheduled for January 28th will be written on January 29th.

If you have any questions, please call the main office.

The holiday break is just a couple of weeks away and we’re sure you’re looking forward to it as we are!

We know that a lot of parents like to include their children’s school photos with holiday cards and gifts for family members. With Edge Imaging's holiday order cut-off coming up quickly, we want to make sure that all families have the opportunity to purchase their photos in time for the holidays.

The last chance to order photos before the holidays is December 9th,  2019.
