Immunization Records

Since April 2015, Ottawa Public Health has been reviewing the immunization records of students in Ottawa. As of October 2015, the immunizations of 50,000 children in Ottawa are still incomplete. Under the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA), students attending schools in Ontario are required to be vaccinated. Parents are required to report immunizations that are done at the doctor's office after Kindergarten to Ottawa Public Health on an ongoing basis.

Ottawa Public Health will be sending letters to parents if their child's records are not up to date. A suspension from school may be issued if the student's records are incomplete. You will receive notice by January 2016 if your child(ren) are affected. Suspensions from school will be staggered between January and March 2016.

Parents who receive a letter requesting immunization information can contact Ottawa Public Health by phone at 613-580-6744 OR submit immunization information online, by fax, by mail or by the ImmunizeCA app. Parents can visit parentinginottawa.ca/immunization for details about how to submit immunization records to Ottawa Public Health.

Ottawa Public Health will be hosting "catch-up clinics" for students who are missing required vaccines and do not have a doctor. If you receive a letter from Ottawa Public Health, please respond as quickly as possible. Your effort to protect your child, and other children, from infectious diseases is always greatly appreciated.
